Our vision is that Winchester will be a welcoming place of safety for all and proud to offer sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution, people seeking sanctuary.

Winchester City of Sanctuary is a network of groups and individuals with the collective aim of working towards greater inclusion and equality for refugees and people seeking sanctuary, with emphasis on raising greater public awareness of the importance of sanctuary and building solidarity and support for people seeking sanctuary.

The first step in your support for Winchester City of Sanctuary is to make a pledge resolution of support outlining some of the concrete steps you and/or your organisation can take to support us.

We all have a part to play in building safe, welcoming and inclusive communities. You can start small. Make a pledge as part of your commitment to support Winchester City of Sanctuary in embedding sanctuary here in Winchester.

I/We support the ‘Winchester City of Sanctuary’ vision that Winchester will be a welcoming place of safety for all especially a place of sanctuary to people fleeing violence and persecution. We endorse the City of Sanctuary UK Charter, and agree to act in accordance with City of Sanctuary UK values and apply the network principles within our work (as far as our specific context enables us to). We recognise the contribution of refugees and people seeking sanctuary to the UK and to Winchester District. Sanctuary seekers are welcomed, included and supported within our organisation. I/We pledge our support to Winchester City of Sanctuary to work in partnership with them to make Winchester a safe and welcoming place for all. We are willing for our organisation’s name to be added to a list of supporters of Winchester City of Sanctuary, linked to our website. We are also willing to be contacted by Winchester City of Sanctuary with further ideas for how we can turn our support into practical action and to discuss ways we might work together to promote their vision further.
