Refugee Tales is coming to Winchester! 6th July

We are incredibly happy to hear that Refugee Tales is coming to Winchester!
The Refugee Tales project, will be coming to Winchester on Wednesday 6 July.
Refugee Tales is rooted in the work of the Gatwick Detainee Welfare Group (GDWG) and is inspired by Chaucer’s great poem of journeying, the Canterbury Tales.

Over the last decade there have been 4 day walks along historic pilgrimage routes in solidarity with refugees, asylum seekers and people who have been held in immigration detention. Previously, these have been held in Sussex and Kent. This year, there is a new route between Merstham and Winchester, wi th the final leg between Alton and Winchester arriving on 6 July. As with all previous events, the walkers will include people who have been forced to flee their homes and/or have experience of the UK’s system of indefinite detention. There is more information on the attached flyer.

The flyer also has the information for this year’s final event at the Stripe Theatre on Wednesday 6 July. One of the highlights will be the performance by members of the Chineke! orchestra. As I expect you know, Chineke! is an exceptional musical venture composed of established and up-and-coming Black and ethnically diverse musicians, and celebrates diversity in classical music. Along with the readings, from the latest volume of Refugee Tales, this will make for a memorable evening. This is a ticketed event. Please scan the QR code in the attached document, for more details about booking tickets.
